Toni Pollard, a teacher of Indonesian language in Australia since 1967 and NAATI qualified translator, took up literary translation on her retirement from the University of Western Sydney in 2004. Working mostly with Jakarta-based Lontar Foundation, Mizan, and the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival in Bali, Toni’s translations include many novels and short story collections by both emerging Indonesian writers and well-known authors such as NH Dini, Hanna Rambe, Djokolelono and Gus tf Sakai. She is the co-founder of the Sydney Indolitclub (Indonesian Literature Club) with former Lontar Executive Director, Kestity Pringgoharjono.
