Michelin Sallata

An indigenous youth climate activist, educator, campaigner and advocate who is passionate in empowering fellow indigenous youth to acquire their potential through traditional knowledge and youth leadership. Involving in social and community development, Michelin's interest also includes critical pedagogy in literacy which she implements in leadership. Her other endeavor includes climate change mitigation led by indigenous peoples and communities and mental health issues among youth and children especially in advocacy of sexual violence and intergenerational trauma experienced by marginalized communities. She was appointed as the first female Chairperson of Barisan Pemuda Adat Nusantara (BPAN) / The Indigenous Youth Front of the Archipelago as well as becoming the Deputy Chair of Council of Asia Indigenous Youth Platform (AIYP) representing the South East Asia region, both respectively in 2022. She founded POMANARA (Youth Frontliners for Collective Action) in 2023 to promote inclusive youth leadership and a safe space for the youth in Eastern Region of Indonesia to carry out advocacy and change actions in local their respective local communities. For her work in advocacy for the indigenous peoples, she has been invited to 3rd Asia Pacific Environmental Human Rights Defenders (EHRD) Forum which is hosted by United Nations OHCHR in 2023.
